InVigor scholarship invests in agriculture
November 17, 2009
Four students enrolled in the University of Saskatchewan Agriculture and Bioresources program received $2,500 towards their studies, thanks to a scholarship sponsored by InVigor® hybrid canola and Bayer CropScience.
These students were selected as recipients of the InVigor scholarship and their winning essays will be published in the Western Producer. The four students are:
Lyndsay Arnst, second year Agronomy
Claire Kincaid, third year Agronomy
Stacey Shewchuk, second year Agribusiness
Bryce Wendland, third year Agribusiness
“These students will be the next generation of leaders and contributors to Canada’s canola industry,” said Brad Ewankiw, Portfolio Manager InVigor Seed for Bayer CropScience Canada – the developer and marketer of InVigor hybrid canola. “We are pleased to be contributing to their education and want to congratulate and commend them on their hard work.”
The InVigor scholarship was established in 2006 to recognize the 10th Anniversary of InVigor hybrid canola and the University of Saskatchewan’s centennial anniversary. Applications for the scholarship required students to write a short essay on how the Canadian canola industry could reach its goal of growing 15 million tonnes of canola by 2015.
“The ongoing support of our students, programs and research from Bayer CropScience helps the university continue to be on the leading edge of both education and research,” said Dr. Mary Buhr, Dean for the College of Agriculture and Bioresources.
InVigor hybrids are the most popular canola seeded in Canada, accounting for almost half of the canola acreage seeded this year. And for good reason. InVigor has maintained an unbroken string as the top yielder in the Canola Council of Canada - managed Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVTs) every year since the inception of the PCVTs in 2003.
