New enhanced InVigorResults.ca online web tool launched to help growers make canola seed booking decisions
November 29, 2011
Bayer CropScience has further enhanced InVigorResults.ca to display the results of its Canadian Demonstration Strip Trials (DST). Both functional and simplistic in its design, the new InVigorResults.ca DST tool:
-
Compares the performance of specific InVigor® canola hybrids against competitors.
-
Features a new summary graph and enables canola growers to toggle between yields, days to maturity and harvest ratings.
-
Provides a regional, provincial and Western Canadian display of results.
“Our new DST tool clearly presents this year’s trial data results, which once again demonstrate that our InVigor canola hybrids outperform competitor hybrids,” says Blaine Woycheshin, Manager, Oilseed Crops – InVigor Seed for Bayer CropScience. “Our Market Development Specialists have undertaken a rigorous methodology to ensure quality trial results. Canola growers can now easily access and analyze this information in an effort to maximize returns and minimize risk.”
In 2011, Bayer CropScience engaged canola growers from all growing regions and soil zones to conduct trials of select InVigor and competitor seeds using the growers’ own equipment and practices. All DSTs were replicated twice within the same field for maximum validity, and were monitored to ensure that all crop applications (herbicide, fungicide, insecticide) and swathing were completed at the most appropriate time to ensure optimal yield and oil content.
28 of the original trials resulted in acceptable yield data. Weather events including excess moisture and hail and unexpected field variability can lead to unacceptable trial variability so these results are not used in final yield comparisons. Bayer CropScience believes strongly in only publishing yield results from high quality, replicated trials.
The following hybrids were included as part of the trials:
Most notably from the new trial results, InVigor L150 builds on its success as the top yielding hybrid in both the 2009 and 2010 WCC/RRC registration trials. It performed exceptionally well across Western Canada, yielding an impressive 54.8 bu./ac. - 3 bu./ac. higher than the closest competitor.
“InVigor canola hybrids have developed a reputation for superior genetics that deliver early season vigor, extraordinary performance, even in stressed conditions, and outstanding yield,” says Woycheshin. “The results of the latest DSTs demonstrate that our InVigor hybrids continue to lead the way in yield. It is our responsibility to share the trial results with growers so that they can use it as a resource to make booking decisions.”
In addition to InVigorResults.ca, the trial data can be found on Farms.com.
