Seed-borne alternaria

(seed-borne)

Infested seed may rot in the ground or produce seedlings with lesions on the cotelydons.  Seed-borne Alternaria reduces seed germination.

Scouting

Check for shrunken seeds. In early season, check seedlings for lesions on cotyledons, especially during periods of warm, humid conditions, frequent rainfalls and heavy dews.

Control

Bury crop residue and control volunteer canola or other cruciferous weeds. Use certified canola seed. Rotate with non-cruciferous crops.
