Alfalfa looper is a greenish larvae around 1 to 1.5 inches long.  It is called a looper because of the large archin of their bodies they use to crawl.  The alfalfa looper eggs are flattened speres with fine ridges running up and down.  Alfalfa loopers cause  ragging of leaves which is generally not of economic importance unless there is more than 50% loss.
