Overview
The species Atractomus mali is commonly known as the apple brown bug and can be found infesting apple and pear orchards of Canada. The pest A. mali has become more common in recent years and is developing into a problematic species found in many Canadian Provinces. The feeding of the apple brown bug often leads to the formation of calluses that render the fruit un-sellable other than as fruit juice.
Main description
Nymphs are black and reddish in color, whereas the adult insects are predominantly dark or black.
Optimal conditions for infestation
A relatively dry period with some sporadic rains, will greatly favour the population increase of the apple brown bug.
Scouting
With the presence of the first adults or small nymphs it is necessary to program an application, especially if it occurs in the middle of a dry period.
