Peach silver mite
(Aculus cornutus)

Overview

The Species Aculus cornutus is commonly known as the Peach Silver Mite and causes damage to peaches, nectarines, and plums when infestations levels are high. The peach silver mite is extremely small (unable to see with unaided eye).

Main description

The peach silver mite is yellow to pinkish white, slightly wedge shaped and has four legs. The damage caused by heavy infestation results in leaves turning a distinctive silvery green colour.

Scouting

Control measures are rarely required as infestation levels often do not reach threshold (200-300 mites per leaf sampled), except during prolonged dry season.
