Overview
Bluebur may not be one of the top 10 weeds in Canada, but if present can be a strong competitor. It can be an annual or winter annual that exhibits profuse branching. The stems and leaves of Lappula echinata are covered with rigid hairs which can be irritating to human skin, and can stick to clothing. Additionally, Bluebur has the typical smell of a mouse infested area, which aids in its identification in the field. Flowering of this broadleaf weed occurs in June and results in distinct blue flowers.
