Root rots caused by botrytis are similar to other root rots.  Surface discoulorations will be present on larger roots and smaller roots may be totally rotted away.  Nearly all soils have some pathogen present.  Weather conditions play a large role in whether root rots will occur – cool wet weather will increase chances of incidence and in some cases can produce serious infections if preventative steps are not taken.
