Phytophthora leaf blight infects ginseng above ground – phytophthora can also infect roots of the ginseng crop. Symptoms of the leaf blight include wilted leaflets hanging limply on an erect stem. In conditions of hight humidity, spores may become visible in the large water soaked areas caused by the pathogen. Eventually leaves become brown and dry up.
