Red stele

Red stele is a root disease of strawberries. Infected areas usually occur in irregular patches, rather than within the rows. If red stele is suspected, dig up plant and dissect main root.  If the centre of the root is a deep red, red stele is the culprit.

Above ground symptoms include plants that are stunted and produce little or no fruit or runners. This is due to an inability to access moisture and nutrients because of root infection.
