Anthracnose can cause yeild losses as high as 95 percent in susceptible cultivars. Brown to purple red lesions occur along the veins on the lower leaf surface. On the pods, lesions are circular with a pale brown centre and a dark brown margin. Spore producing small black specks may appear in the centres.
The pathogen survives in crop residue and seed. Seeds that become infected may produce seedlings with infected cotyledons. Spores may infect leaves, petioles, stems and pods.
