Large alfalfa caterpillars can be very destructive, consuming entire leaves. They are different from armyworms in that they eat all of the leaf, including the midrib. Alfalfa caterpillars can grow as large as 1.5 inches long and have velvety green bodies and white lines along their sides. The butterfly of the alfafla caterpillar is yellowish orange or whitish.
