Rose stem girdler
(Agrilus aurichalceus)

Overview

The species Agrilus aurichalceus is commonly known as the Rose Stem Girdler. This species is a pest to raspberry, blueberry, rose and other cane plants. The Rose Stem Girdler feeds on stems just below the bark, cutting off water and preventing the transport of nutrients, resulting in the stem death once the insect damage is complete.

Main description

The rose stem girdler larvae are a whitish-yellow colour with a distinct head and a prominently segmented body. At maturity, the flat headed beetle can reach approximately 9-10 mm.
