Apple thinning is a process by which fruitlets are removed from apple trees early in the season. This allows for the remaining fruitlets to grow into larger fruit, which are more desirable for customers.
Apple thinning can be done manually by walking through the orchard and removing fruitlets at the ideal time. Sevin XLR can also be used for thinning, as it causes the majority of fruitlets to fall off, leaving only the king bloom, which is the most desirable fruitlet. Application timing is very important as this will determine the success of using Sevin XLR for thinning.
