Overview
Night-flowering catchfly is an annual weed that reproduces through seed only. Key defining features are its sticky stem to the touch and its fragrant flowers that open at night.

Leaves are opposite and covered in sticky hairs that form a basal rosette.
Mature plant
The upper leaves are narrow in comparison to lower leaves and can reach up 8 cm in length. Stems grow erect and are typically highly branched in the upper portion of the plant. The upper stems are covered in sticky hairs, and can reach up to 50 cm in height at maturity. The lower leaves are 5-10 cm in length. This plant will flower from June to as late as mid September; with flowers that are found individually at the end of stems with 5 petals that are either white or pink. Flowers only open up in the early evening and are very distinct, with green sepals that form a calyx with 5 distinct veins.
Optimal growth conditions
This plant may require high temperatures to facilitate germination. It can typically be found growing on sandy substrates and also loamy soils in dry hot environmental conditions.
