Overview
The species Phalaris canariensis is commonly known as canary seed. Canada is one of the top producers of this crop, emphasizing the fact that the conditions within Canada are optimal for the growth of this plant species. However, as a grassy weed, P. canariensis can be a problem in cropping areas, especially for cereal crops. Canary seed is not a highly competitive species; however, it is known to be susceptible to the disease Septoria spp, thus enhancing the importance of scouting and controlling this grassy weed.
