Overview
Supercharge your potato late blight and early blight program by adding Reason to the tank – and add these features to your fungicide program:
- Increased activity on both early blight and late blight
- Local systemic activity to protect new growth
- Translaminar movement to protect both sides of the leaf
- Strong anti-sporulant activity
- In potatoes always tank mix Reason with a contact fungicide
- Second mode of action
- Concentrated flowable formulation reduces amount of product to handle
- Economical
Rates and Timing
| Crop | Disease controlled | Application rate | Application timing |
| Potatoes |
Early blight Late blight |
200 mL/ha (81 mL/ac.) plus 1.25 kg/ha (0.5 kg/ac.) of Dithane OR 1.25 L/ha (0.5 L/ac.) of Bravo.
For other mancozeb products (Manzate, Penncozeb) use equivalent rates (935 g ai/ha). |
Application of Reason should begin when plants are 15-20 cm high or when disease threatens (whichever comes first). Apply a fungicide having a different mode of action within 7-10 days after each application. Use the shorter spray interval when conditions favour disease development. Follow the recommended spray interval for each fungicide application before proceeding with the next application. Ensure that the area to be treated is covered uniformly. |
| Bulb Vegetables (Crop Group 3) |
Downy mildew (suppression) |
400 mL/ha (162 mL/ac.) |
For optimum results, begin applications as soon as crop and/or environmental conditions become favourable for disease development. Applications should be made on a 5-10 day interval depending upon disease conditions. Apply on the shorter application interval under conditions of high disease pressure. |
| Cucurbits |
Downy mildew |
400 mL/ha (162 mL/ac.) |
Begin applications as soon as crop and/or environmental conditions become favourable for disease development. Applications should be made on a 5-10 day interval depending upon disease conditions. Apply on the shorter application interval under conditions of high disease pressure. |
| Brassica (Cole) Leafy Vegetables |
Suppression of Downy Mildew (peronospora parasitica) |
400 - 600 mL/ha (162 - 242ml/ac.) |
Begin applications as soon as crop and/or environmental conditions become favourable for disease development. Applications should be made on a 5-10 day interval depending upon disease conditions. Thorough coverage is required. |

Application Tips
- Reason 500 SC should be applied as a preventative disease control measure. Good coverage is essential for effective disease control. Any reduction in water volume can reduce disease control.
- Apply in a preventative spray program using a 7-10 day spray interval (shorter under heavy disease pressure)
- Rainfastness: 1-2 hours (2 hours in poor drying conditions)
- Pre-harvest intervals:
Potatoes - 14 days
Bulb vegetables (crop group 3) - 7 days
Cucurbits - 14 days
Brassica leafy vegetables (crop group 5) - 2 days
